Welcome to NextGen: HN news.

We are continuing to develop the next generation of Higher National qualifications and work alongside our pilot centre colleagues to successfully deliver the NextGen: HN project.

NEXTGEN: HN - ARRANGEMENTS FOR 2024 - 25

Centres are being invited to apply to pilot the following HNC subjects from 2024 - 25: Accounting; Computing; Engineering (Engineering Systems, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering pathways); Physical Activity & Health and Social Sciences.

If you are interested in piloting any of these subjects, please read our ‘pilot centre application information’ and complete the online form using the link in the document.

The closing date for applications is today, Wednesday 24 January 2024.

NEXTGEN: HN - GRADING AND META-SKILLS

Opportunities for improvement have been identified by testing various approaches across our design principles and products, with a particular focus on grading and meta-skills.

ENGINEERING ROADSHOW

We asked all engineering leads in our further education colleges to invite us to showcase our 'Engineering Roadshow' to delivery teams, which has resulted in useful professional discussions with Kelvin College, and further sessions are lined up with City of Glasgow College and West Lothian College. The purpose of the roadshow is to promote the NextGen: HN Engineering qualification.

PROJECT EVALUATION UPDATE

We are now into the second year of our evaluation activity, which will utilise learner focus groups and surveys, alongside practitioner evaluation meetings. We look forward to working in collaboration with you, to provide important information which will contribute to the development of NextGen: HN qualifications.

UHI LEARNING AND TEACHING CONFERENCE 2023

Members of the NextGen: HN team recently attended and presented at UHI’s Learning and Teaching conference in Inverness. The conference was titled ‘role modelling, re-modelling and re-imagining’ which provided the perfect opportunity to showcase NextGen: HN, focusing on the key theme of sustainability. 

HEI'S PREPARING TO RECEIVE NEXTGEN: HN LEARNERS

We have produced a short video to support Higher Education Institutions as they prepare to receive NextGen: HN learners. The video provides an overview of the key differences in NextGen: HN qualifications, what can be done to update existing articulation agreements and how we can support this work.

DIGITAL PUBLISHING ACCESS REMINDER

Our NextGen: HN Digital Publishing pages contain the current draft unit specifications, educator guides and grading packs for NextGen: HNC and HND prototype pilot qualifications.

The Digital Publishing pages will always contain the most up-to-date versions of these, as the documents may be subject to change in the future.
